SUCCESS IN THE COBURN TROPHY

Well done to Judy Smooker for winning The Coburn Trophy.

The Coburn Trophy is run by Bowls Dorset and is open to any Lady who holds office in their Club. Judy is the Swanage Bowls Club Treasurer and when she’s not counting all the pennies (or organising our fantastic social events), she just happens to be an amazing bowler!

The Coburn Cup is a 4 woods singles knock out competition with the Final held on 10th September. Against tough opposition Judy won with her mantra of ‘Focus on the Green’, a tip for all aspiring bowlers!

Congratulation Judy and thank you for all your work for our Club.

Ladies Captain’s Report 2017

It has been a mixed season for the Swanage Ladies.

In the Edna Paisley League the ladies maintained a position in the upper part of the league throughout 2017 and finished in a commendable forth place.

Despite all our best efforts, in division 2 of the Dorset Women’s Bowling League we were less successful finishing third from bottom.

Whilst we did not achieve any major success, we all had a very enjoyable season and I wish to thank all the ladies that participated. I look forward to playing next year and wish Linda success as the 2018 Ladies Captain.

Mens Captain’s Report

B & D Premier League Section 3.

The Great Escape Mk.2

As last year, we had a great escape from relegation, it went down to the wire and the last game of the season.

It was a fight between Branksome Park ‘A’ and ourselves over the second half of the season.

In the last 4 games we beat Branksome Park, lost to Poole Park ‘B’, beat Milford on Sea, and lost to Kings Park. During this run we accrued 26 points, finally beating Branksome in the league by 6 points PHEW! So we stay in Section 3.

Percy Baker Trophy League.

A Good Season.

We won 8 and lost 2 games this season, taking 47 points from a possible 60, winning East 2 division. Thus qualifying for the area finals.

We beat Broadstone in the semis but lost to Poole Park in the area final.

So well done the Swans on all accounts and thanks to all the members that took part.

SWANAGE SUCCESS IN THE B&D SATURDAY MIXED TRIPLE LEAGUE

The revised format Bournemouth & District Saturday Mixed Triples League introduced for the 2017 season has concluded with a significant success for the team entered by Swanage Bowling Club. At only three points behind the winners, Swanage were runners up and are promoted to Section 1 of the competition for next season. Congratulations to all Swanage players who contributed to this achievement.

The Saturday Triples League was played in a sporting but a relaxed atmosphere throughout the season. All involved at Swanage enjoyed playing in the competition and look forward to playing in Section 1 next season.
