From rain to sun in 7 days

Due to weather and County restrictions, only 4 games to report on this week!

Mondays Bowls Dorset Men’s League against Branksome Park ’A’ was, due to a rain storm of biblical proportions during Swanage’s 40 inches of rain, not started and rearranged for Thursday 5th August. The ladies Edna Paisley League game on Wednesday was rearranged for Wednesday 11th August, due to the Blandford Badger’s lack of player availability. Thursdays Percy Baker E2 game was cancelled versus Broadstone due to their players playing County knockout game that evening!

Thursday saw the Men host their Percy Baker Trophy League E4, against Blandford. This was a tightly fought game on two rinks, John French, Jim Kelly and skip Gordon Wallis were 7 shots to 6 up after 6 ends, after 12 ends it was 11 all and at the 18 end held out to win 17-16. Tony Bell, Barrie Tatman and skip Clive Bryceson were 7 shots to 4 up after 6 ends, but went down 5 on the 7th, after 12 end this rink was also 11 all and on the 18 they took 1 shot and won 18-16. An overall win by 3 shots and maximum points.

Also on Thursday the Ladies travelled to Poole Park in the Bournemouth & District Ladies League, again the overall score was very close, we lost by 5 shots 38-43.The rink of Jan Cherry, Linda Wallis and skip Uta Keats were down 2 shots to 11 at 8 ends, after the penultimate end came back to 19 all but lost 2 shots on the last to go down 19-21. Sue King, Gill Bryceson and skip Judy Smooker, were up 13 shots to 4 at 8 ends but were 7 shots down after their penultimate end then scored 4 on the last end to cut the loss down to 3 shots, a good hard fought close game with no points to show.

Saturday saw the Mixed Triples away at Southbourne BC playing their ‘C’ team. Although this was a loss by 20 shots overall, 40-20, Dave Wright, Linda Wallis and skip Gill Bryceson came back from no shots scored after 5 ends to finish up 4 shots adrift at the end,13-17.

The Men went to Knyverton Gardens BC to play their ‘A’ team in the Bournemouth & District Premiership section 4, this again was a tight game of triples on 4 rinks. Swanage won on 2 rinks and by 2 shots overall 66-64, giving a 10-4 points in the league. The bright light was the rink of John French, Ben Cross and skip Brian Beeston, winning by 15 shots  28-13.
