Men’s B&D Promotion Push

Following Saturday’s much needed 12-2 win against 2nd placed Wimborne A moved us back into 2nd position.

We are now 3 points ahead of Argyll A and 5 ahead of Wimborne A.

Our last two games are both away. Next week we travel to runaway leaders Ferndown (we beat them at Beach Gardens) and then in the final game we go all the way to lowly Downton (South of Salisbury). Two wins would probably be enough depending on what Argyll and Wimborne do but I also think 4 points at Ferndown and a big win at Downton should secure promotion to Section 3.

Onwards and Upwards, good luck everyone.

Two Wood Competition

On Saturday 3rd of August many Swanage bowlers competed in the men’s and women’s Two Woods day.

In the men’s competition the experienced Mike Keats beat three good opponents to take his place in the final where he took on Brian Beeston. The final was a very close game with Brian’s final wood of the day falling a centimetre short of winning the game. So the cup went to Mike Keats who bowled consistently well through a long day and many many ends. Congratulations Mike.

In the Ladies competition the inexperienced Nadine Evans won through to the final where she played multiple champion Uta Keats. Nadine was bowling very well and took the scalp of Uta for a well deserved trophy, congratulations Nadine.

A much needed lunch was provided by Linda so many thanks to Linda and to  Barrie who organised the competition.

A Good Start

Swanage Bowls Club sent a mixed team of 16 to Pelhams Bowls Club for the traditional pre-season friendly and came back with the shield following a narrow 69 – 67 win.

The 1st Bowls Dorset League match of the season was also won by the Swanage Men’s team (pictured) this time against Wimborne at Beach Gardens by 8 points to 2.

The ladies team opened their season with an away match at Broadstone where they too got off to a flyer with a 7 points to 4 win.

So a great start to the season for Swanage Bowls Club and lets hope it continues through the summer and we have some nice weather to enjoy this lovely sport.

RESOLUTION

Swanage Bowling Club Management Committee, recommend we rescind the

vote to replace the green with an all-weather surface, taken some 3 years ago, as we do not think it will happen.

We would strongly, therefore, recommend that we replace the poor surface with a level and better grass surface, at a much lower cost.

This after securing a lease on the green and surrounds from the Town Council at a peppercorn rent.

Only full members are entitled to vote on this bowling matter in accordance with a motion agreed at the last AGM

Thank you from Brian

I have had a wonderful year and wish to thank all members of the club especially the officers who have given me and the club so much support, not forgetting the brilliant sum of 1437.73 pounds raised for the M.S Society for Wareham and Purbeck, and I wish the incoming President and officers a year to enjoy and remember.
