Our finals weekend is upon us. The schedule shows the diversity of finalists across the competitions and we wish everyone a ‘good game’.
Competitors and spectators are reminded of the strict requirements to follow the ‘rule of 6’ and the COVID safe procedures within the Pavilion. Please bring your own food, but the good news is that the bar will be open!
This has been the most ‘interesting ‘ start to any bowling season ever.
We have a brand new green, in perfect playing condition, thanks to our ‘Green Manager’ Gordon Wallis and all his little helpers. But in April we were in lockdown and could not play on it!
However, following stringent Government and Bowls England guidelines on social distancing and good housekeeping, we were able to start bowling on Monday 18th May.
Only using 3 rinks with a rink between each, playing singles, 2 people per rink. With further relaxation of the lockdown, we have increased this to 4 bowlers per rink, playing pairs. Rinks times booked strictly through a central site (Me)
We have now started to instigate our club knockout matches and members are currently filling in their ‘Competition Entry Forms’ to be in on 25th June, latest.
So small progression with competition starting early July, and our finals weekend on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September.
At least we are out in the sun and having fun enjoying our bowling. The only things missing are inter club league competition and the BAR. The league competition will not take place this year BUT THE BAR MAY OPEN!

The revised format Bournemouth & District Saturday Mixed Triples League introduced for the 2017 season has concluded with a significant success for the team entered by Swanage Bowling Club. At only three points behind the winners, Swanage were runners up and are promoted to Section 1 of the competition for next season. Congratulations to all Swanage players who contributed to this achievement.
The Saturday Triples League was played in a sporting but a relaxed atmosphere throughout the season. All involved at Swanage enjoyed playing in the competition and look forward to playing in Section 1 next season.
Norman Love – Saturday Mixed Triples Captain
This year Swanage men entered a team in the Top Club National Knock Out Competition.
This competition consists of five disciplines, 2 wood singles, 4 wood singles, pairs, triples and rinks.
The first few rounds are against other Dorset sides and then becomes more regional with games in Wiltshire etc.
In the 1st Round Swanage were drawn at home against a very strong Blandford side.
All five disciplines were played at the same time with the two singles matches finishing first with Gordon securing a comfortable win in the 4 woods. Our 2 wood club champion, John, came up against a very strong player and unfortunately lost.
The next match to finish was the triples which was a very tight game from start to finish. In the end Brian’s consistent leading backed up by Barrie and myself got over the line to win by two shots and make it 2-1 to Swanage.
Meanwhile our rink of Ken, Paul, David F and skipper Graham failed to peg back a strong Blandford team so 2-2.
Our heroic pair of Mike K and Hoggy finished the job off with a nice win after a little scare when Blandford cut the lead to one shot.
So on to round two where we travel to Poole Park to play our old ‘friends’.
Lets hope this result will prove to be the turning point in our season.
