Swanage Bowling Club is a lawn bowls club based in Swanage Town Council’s Beach Gardens, just off the seafront. Beach Gardens is also home to the Swanage Tennis Club and a popular 18 hole grass putting course. There is a shared Pavilion and the Club recently raised funds for a large translucent outdoor canopy to protect spectators from both rain and sun, under which they can enjoy the matches in more comfort. With views across the bay to the Isle of Wight, there is no better place to enjoy a game of bowls in good company!

The Club has played lawn bowls in Swanage since 1928 - and it is an important part of the sports and social activities within the town as well as a tourist attraction for visitors in the summer. There are six rinks, two of which are available to non-members to bring their own bowls or hire equipment from the Council booth.
Barrie TatmanPRESIDENT’S MESSAGE 2021

My name is Barrie Tatman, I am proud to continue as Club President for the 2021 season. Along with other club officers, following the ‘Covid-19’ pandemic’s effect on the 2020 season, we agreed to stay on committee.

Our club sets out to offer bowling facilities to the whole community. We provide for both Ladies and Men bowling at many levels, from National knockout competitions, through local inter-club leagues, to club leagues and ‘roll ups’ (arrive and play) at a more casual level, along with a thriving social programme.

The Covid-19 situation this year, means we have to operate within the restrictions of the Government’s 4 step road map and Bowls England guidelines of play. Due to this our ‘open door’ policy regarding novice bowlers being encouraged to come along and ‘have a go’, is on hold at present, however, when the first opportunity arrives they will be welcomed back.
